FRAMED STITCHERY & FINISHED PENNYRUG

I asked for your opinion on whether to frame my stitchery or make a pillow and the majority said that I should frame it. I tried making a picture in many places tonight but couldn't get one that didn't have a huge glare (other than this one). I really enjoyed doing this and have some other patterns that I want to start for Christmas. I know that some will be pillows and I'll frame others. Other than the bittersweet on the one above, it went really fast so I'm sure that the patterns I have chosen to do now will be much easier. Also, I finished the pennyrug table runner that I previously posted about. You know how many mistakes are in this one but I also plan to do more of these. See the finished product below.

On my next trip to the Thrift Store I am going to look for some wool skirts. I made this one from felt. Friday night the three grandsons spent the night with us and Zack (age 8) was so interested in this project as I was completing it. He said, "Gigi, you need to come teach this to my class." I told him that these were called pennyrugs and a little of the history behind them (thanks to Terry at Cider Moon Cottage). He asked if I'd teach him how to make one. I let him pull some of my thread through and he loved it. The next day he asked me if I was going to sew some more. I'll have to find something that I can teach him.

I know it isn't Thanksgiving yet, but I'm already thinking about Christmas. I love Thanksgiving and don't want to rush through. I have my husband's family (it's mine too) at my house on Thanksgiving and look forward to it every year. It's the one time during the year that most of the family is together. The reason I'm thinking about Christmas is the fact that Thanksgiving is later this year and my first Christmas party at my house is December 2nd. How will I get it all decorated in one weekend????

  4. Love your pennyrug! It is sooo pretty. I have been collecting wool skirts from the Goodwill for about a year now ... when they are on clearance for 50 cents each!

I have already felted my supply and now just need to get the courage to give pennyrugs a try. Such a wonderful old art.

Your stitchery is perfect in that black frame.

Can't wait to see more pennyrug projects!

  7. Oh, both of your projects look AWESOME! Two of my favorite things are stitcheries and pennyrugs! Terry makes the most beautiful, one-of-a-kind pieces and is a true artist in every sense of the word! Just wait until you see her hand-carved Santas!
I want to make a pennyrug so bad, but it is hard to find the time to sit still long enough to do much of anything these days.
I love Thanksgiving too, and can't help but think about Christmas. Both are coming FAST!
    Have a blessed day!

  8. Your finished projects look great! I have huge family's on both my mom and dad's sides...both have big get-togethers at Thanksgiving and Christmas. My hubby's mom's family also has a big Christmas party every year. I kind of dread the thought of having to host some day....but I'm sure it will be fun when the time comes! Good luck to you early on getting your decorating done in one weekend..what a task! Have a great day! <3Lauren

  13. They both came out great! I have already made some things for Christmas too. There is never enough time after Thanksgiving! I put up all my Christmas decor the day after Thanksgiving. I spend the whole day doing it and I love it,but I wouldn't want to have to fit in a party then as well.

  14. I have no doubt you will get that party - and all your parties this year - pulled together beautifully! You just have a way of doing that, I know. It's priceless that your grandson is interested in your sewing project. Hope you can visit his school; not many of us grandparents are invited to our grandchildren's school! Very special.

  15. Your penny rug runner turned out awesome! It is going to look so nice on your table at Christmas time. That is so neat that your little g. son wants to learn.
I love your framed stitchery too. Oh, there are so many things I want to do, and I'm running out of time.
Even though there will only be my husband and I for Thanksgiving, and maybe my mother, I always cook up a storm.
